How We Design and Build Business Networks

Every network project starts with a site survey. We walk through your space, understand how your team works, identify how many devices need connectivity, and map out the coverage requirements. From there, we design a network that fits your space, your budget, and your growth plans.

For wired infrastructure, we use Cat6 or Cat6a structured cabling - terminated to patch panels and properly labelled. This gives you reliable gigabit (or 10-gigabit) speeds for desktops, servers, PoE cameras, and VoIP phones. Structured cabling is a one-time investment that lasts 15-20 years and forms the backbone of a fast, reliable network.

For wireless, we design coverage maps based on your floor plan and install commercial-grade access points in the right locations. We configure VLANs to separate business traffic from guest WiFi, set up bandwidth management, and optimise channel selection to avoid interference from neighbouring networks.

WiFi vs Wired: Getting the Right Mix

A common mistake we see is businesses running everything over WiFi when they would benefit from a hybrid approach. WiFi is convenient, but wired connections are faster, more stable, and do not suffer from interference.

Our general recommendation: use Ethernet for anything that stays in one place - desktops, printers, NVRs, servers, and PoE security cameras. Use WiFi for laptops, tablets, phones, and any mobile devices. This approach gives you the best performance across the board and reduces congestion on your wireless network.

We also handle the security side of networking - firewall configuration, network segmentation, and intrusion detection. A well-designed network is not just fast; it is also secure.

What a Typical Network Installation Looks Like

Here is what you can expect when we build or upgrade your business network:

  1. Site survey and consultation - We assess your space, discuss your needs, and provide a detailed quote
  2. Network design - We plan the cable runs, access point locations, switch sizing, and VLAN structure
  3. Cable installation - Structured cabling is run, terminated, tested, and labelled
  4. Equipment setup - Switches, routers, firewalls, and access points are configured and deployed
  5. Testing and handover - We test every connection, verify speeds, and walk you through the setup

Most small office installations are completed in one to two days. Larger builds with extensive cabling may take three to five days depending on the scope.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers, no fluff.

It depends on the size of your space and the complexity of the setup. A simple office WiFi upgrade might start from $500, while a full structured cabling and network build for a multi-room premises could be $3,000-10,000+. We provide free on-site quotes.

Both. Wired connections (Ethernet) are faster and more reliable for desktops, servers, and PoE devices. WiFi is essential for laptops, phones, and tablets. The best business networks use a combination of both.

WiFi 6 (802.11ax) is the current standard for business use. It handles more devices simultaneously, offers better performance in crowded environments, and is more power efficient. We recommend WiFi 6 access points for most installations.

Yes. We run structured cabling through existing wall cavities, ceiling spaces, and conduits. For heritage or difficult buildings, we also offer surface-mounted cable management solutions that keep things tidy.

Yes. We work across multiple platforms including Ubiquiti UniFi, Cisco Meraki, Palo Alto, TP-Link Omada, and standard Cisco gear. We recommend the best platform for your budget and requirements.
